Ski Tracks iPhone App

If you don’t have an iphone, then face it, you’re probably a nobody (like myself). But since almost everyone does these days, there are countless tools or ways to completely waste your time through that digital-portal-to-becoming-alone device that is beginning to take over the world.

Ski Tracks is an iphone app which allows you to turn on the app, throw your phone in your pocket and track, time, and map your ski day. For a whopping $0.99, you can set your phone up with an app that will give you all sorts of useless statistics about where you skied, how many runs you did, how fast you went, and tons of other things you probably don’t need to know.

Features Include:

  • Max and average speed
  • Distance traveled
  • Vertical skied
  • Max and Min Altitude
  • Number of runs
  • Average slope in degrees
  • Duration

Mapping Features:

You can also view your path on Google Maps and Google Earth incase you totally forgot where you went during the day and need to look at a marginally inaccurate visual representation of the path you took on your skiing adventure. Some could argue that if you find a sweet spot you can use the mapping feature to find that spot again, but most likely that was the spot I stumbled upon after years of skiing the whole mountain in which case you can go find your own spot or at least put an honest effort into knowing the mountain not just creeping around with your iphonepod poaching all good pow and lines.

Photo Features:

Incase you were hoping to do a full fledged powerpoint presentation of your skiing day; Ski Tracks also provides you with a feature to pair photos with their locations through the Google Maps feature in order to later on review what these spots looked like while you were busy taking pictures of them. It’s also another way you can spoil my favourite spot even more through the process of “sharing” on the interwebs.

WARNING!

This app is not an avalanche beacon! Even if your phone was $500 that doesn’t mean that because it tells you where you on a map it will save you from anything other than post ski amnesia.

Conclusion:

Overall, this app is only for those who really want to know whats up with their own riding statistics. But it is a good tool to settle the age old rivalry, “Who’s Faster”…then again, who resolves those anyways? Now you’re just trying to unleash a storm of embarrassment and hate on a little rivalry that was a fun attribute, if not necessity, to the ski hill prior to the technology boom.
