Today was COLD. Today was facemask-mandatory weather. Today made California locals cringe and whimper. Today was still super fun though.

The week began with bold snow total predictions. Some dared to say that 50-90 cm would fall by Wednesday. Slowly (rather quickly actually) these forecasts shrank, and now we will be lucky if 5 cm more fall this week. This doesn’t mean that 7ish cm wasn’t waiting this morning, on an empty mountain, for us to shred.

I don’t think it got above 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 6 C) all day, but this means that hardly anyone else was on the mountain. In addition, the new snow was Utah dry and fairly unspoiled in Spankey’s lap after lap. We never made it to Whistler today, but Spankey’s was certainly the best of Blackcomb. The worst place to be was anywhere you happened to be underdressed, maybe the chairlift today.

We headed the warnings for this cold though and dressed appropriately in order to weather the freeze and enjoy rippable runs under blue skies. Twas a success.

Tomorrow is supposed to be just as cold, but perhaps 3 cm will fall throughout the day. Needless to say, the village will be encompassed within the freezing level.
