There is plenty of snow in the forecast for the week to come here at Catedral. 40 cm’s by Wednesday and more to follow! The snow level in the forecast keeps flirting with the upper elevations of the resort but with a little luck we’ll be out of the mank and into some blower snow in no time!
Sunday at Catedral: The snow was great in spots but when the clouds socked in the visibility went to nil.
Something like 45 cm’s of snow had fallen on the mountain Friday night but with a little wind buffing, sun baking, and overnight freezing, conditions were variable. A few good stashes could still be found.
We headed up to Catedral Sunday morning to find Nubes lift running for the first time in several days and the terrain below had not been skied much. There were actually some pretty good spongy, almost chalky wind buffed pitches under and around Nubes. When you could see it was actually really good. The snow reminded me of windbuff on Headwall Face at Squaw. It was the first time I was able to ski winter snow in a while and I was stoked on the turns.
After a few runs though, the clouds socked in and if you didn’t ski near some earthy or vegetative contrast there was a slight chance of vertigo.
Since it was my first day the guys were trying to give me a good tour of the mountain but I’m not sure I picked up on everything. The sky was about as foggy as my Spanish. But the snow was falling before I left the mountain. Fingers crossed for the week to come.
I’ve stopped saying no entiendo. I Just nod and smile. I’m sure the fog will lift soon. And then there will be pow!
