Looking for a new surf board this summer? Wanna support a local coastal shaper? Talk to Nef at Home Grown Surf Shop and chances are you’ll be able to work out an exact board you want, for a super reasonable price, and be dropping in on some glassy surf in no time.

Disclaimer-Nef is a super Irie dude and isn’t a conventional guy to do business with-just the way I like it. He’s a great dude, but to get your board on time you need to communicate with him clearly, have some patience, and all will be good. Just look at this gorgeous 9-0′ longboard he shaped my lady and I,

and my new fish that is just begging to get wet.

Nef’s got a great set up and a super cool rootsy shop in Davenport, which is just 9 miles north of Santa Cruz off Highway 1. This slab of balsa wood is more than 200 years old. Nef said he and a buddy pulled it from the beach before he was able to shape the fish you see in the cut out in the middle.

Here’s a shot of where Nef gets the job done,

and some surf shop décor letting you know the vibes are Irie when you deal with Home Grown Surf Shop.

Like buying skis, in my opinion, it’s really cool to support local guys getting the job done right. That’s part of what makes me so stoked to click into my Praxis Powderboards on every powder day around the Lake. Like I said, Nef is a tripper to work with, but he gets the job done and creates beautiful boards with a lot of care and respect. Drop him a line, give him a visit (right off Highway 1 near the bakery in Davenport, 949-554-5199), and be prepared to get stoked on your new shred stick. It’s the perfect way to get fired up for the non-snow season and lock into the next best way to play outside.
