Surfin’ in the Storm
As we all watched and waited for the storm cycle to roll into town it seemed too nice outside for a monster storm. One thing for sure you could hear the howling winds and see the waving trees. NOAA’s forecast called for 3-6ft waves on the North Shore. I got a call from the Scott Gaffney and headed to Tahoe Vista.
“The lines of this past week were the ones rolling into the North Shore of Tahoe. The winds were nuking and the surf was up. I may have got out there an hour too late–the surf was really clean but the winds shut down for a little bit before picking back up. I’ve seen it way bigger, but there were still legit rides.
The sketchiest thing of the day, though, was photog Ryan Salm sitting on the pier of a house right by the water. The lady that lives there is a really angry person and has called the cops on us before just for scrambling down the 20′ bank near her house to hit the water. She’s flipped us off surfing out in front of her place, too. Had she come home and caught Ryan sitting on her pier, I wouldn’t have been surprised if she came storming out with a shotgun aimed as his face. So, in my book, he gets the win for gnarliest line: walking the angry ladies’ pier.” Scott Gaffney
Bottom line here is that I know it just snowed and skiing is fun, but this is the “Line”. To tell you the truth, “Line of the Week” comes out on Wednesdays and I was skiing pow all day.
The Line of the Week will be a weekly photo piece by Ryan Salm featuring some of Tahoe’s finest athletes doing whatever we deem rad.
