Meteorological spring arrived nearly two weeks ago in the west and many skier/riders are already ditching long johns in favor of board shorts and bikini’s.

And while skiers and rider’s are hoping for a few more blasts of winter weather this April, it doesn’t hurt to plan some spring skiing and beer drinking before the fat lady sings and we hang up our boots for the season.

Mammoth Mountain
Projected Closing Date – 05/28/18 | Base Depth – 175″Â
Mammoth is easily usually a top choice for spring turns and thanks to #MiracleMarch, it looks as though the spring is saved in the Sierra. That abundant snowfall has left the summit with a deep snowpack and resort officials are already planning on keeping the resort open through Memorial Day weekend.
Squaw Valley
Projected Closing Date – TBD |Â Â Base Depth – 151″
Squaw Valley, AKAÂ “The Spring Skiing Capital Of The World” is set to have an amazing end to the season after Ullr blessed the resort with upwards of 18 feet of snow in the month of March alone.
Arapahoe Basin
Projected Closing Date – TBD | Base Depth – 57″
Arapahoe Basin is known for its steep skiing and some of its best terrain begins opening up in April. This includes the infamous East Wall. After snagging a fresh line down First Notch, Willie’s Wide, or North Pole, head to “The Beach.” Just make sure to snag a spot in the parking lot early, designate a sober driver, and bring lots of beer.
Mt Bachelor
Projected Closing Date – 05/28/18 | Base Depth – 113″
When it comes to the PNW, nobody does spring skiing quite like Mt Bachelor. The Oregon ski area will keep running lifts through Memorial Day (*weather permitting) and should be serving up some tasty turns for those not ready to put on a summer coat of wax just yet.
Killington
Projected Closing Date – TBD | Base Depth – 28″
Killington is the perennial favorite for spring skiing in the east and is known in particular for its late season bump skiing. “The Outer Limits” is where it all goes down– just be sure tighten up your “daffy, twister, spread.”
Grand Targhee
Projected Closing Date – 04/15/18 | Base Depth – 122″
After Jackson Hole Mountain Resort closes its doors for the season, “The ‘Ghee” keeps the season going in the Tetons for an extra two weeks. More often than not, this is one of the last places to find lift-accessed powder turns in Wyoming.
Snowbird
Projected Closing Date – TBD | Base Depth – 100″
One word– TRAM. Thanks to this unique lift, spring @Snowbird is all-time and this year will be especially good as the LCC resort is boasting one of its deepest snowpacks in recent memory. Don’t miss out!
