Sean Haberthier, a 47 year old carpenter from Denver, was reported missing at about 5 p.m. Thursday after a day of skiing at Breckenridge. Summit County Sheriff’s Office assisted Breckenridge Ski Patrol in conducting an extensive search early Friday morning according to Summit Daily.
The search parties found him at around 8:30am near the expert Lower Boneyard run off the Peak 8 6-Chair. He was pronounced dead on scene from an apparent collision with a tree. Summit County coroner Regan Wood later confirmed Haberthier died of a severe skull fracture. Haberthier was not wearing a helmet.
This marks the second ski fatality in Summit County this ski season, both incidents happened at Breckenridge and both involved collisions with trees.
We send out our thoughts and prayers to Sean’s friends and family. On all accounts he was a soft spoken man, hard working who loved the outdoors and skiing.
