The winter weather is rolling through the western United States and the northern Rockies are starting to feel Ullr’s love.

As this short burst of snow hits places like Alta, Sun Valley, and Powder Mountain, mountain dwellers will get a taste of winter before even more snow arrives later this week. A second front should push through the west mid-week, which combined with cold air coming down from Canada should result in significant snowfall totals.

* AFFECTED AREA…THE NORTHERN WASATCH MOUNTAINS ABOVE 7000 FEET.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…2 TO 6 INCHES WITH LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS EAST OF OGDEN AND NORTHWARD TO THE IDAHO BORDER.

* TIMING…PERIODS OF SNOW WILL DEVELOP THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE INTO THIS AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL DECREASE IN AREAL COVERAGE AND INTENSITY LATE TODAY OR THIS EVENING.

* SNOW LEVELS…LOWERING TO BETWEEN 6000 AND 7000 FEET THIS MORNING.

* WINDS…SOUTHWESTERLY RIDGETOP WINDS GUSTING TO 40 MPH EARLY THIS MORNING…WILL SHIFT TO THE WEST BY LATE MORNING AND DECREASE.

* IMPACTS…ACCUMULATING SNOWS WILL MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS AT THE HIGHEST PASSES AND ALONG BACKCOUNTRY ROADS AND TRAILS BEGINNING THIS MORNING.
