Smoke free is the new policy at Whistler Blackcomb. Implemented by Whistler Ski Resort CEO, Dave Brownlie, the smoking ban is effective starting May 31st and applies to all property owned by Whistler Blackcomb.
Brownlie said in a statement, “We have made the decision to introduce a smoke-free policy at Whistler Blackcomb to preserve the pristine alpine environment our guests come here for.”
This move sets a precedent amongst Canadian ski resorts, who are looking to provide smoke free environments—especially among bars and restaurants. Resort employees will be afforded one year to smoke in designated areas before their smoking habits have no place at Whistler Blackcomb.
So where is Charley Ager going to have a smoke and a cup of coffee?
Reportedly, tobacco users are not alone in this new policy. According to the statement released, marijuana smokers, vaporizers, and e-cigarette users will be held accountable to the rule as well.
Brownlie hopes the new ban on smoking will affect a decline in Tobacco use among Canadian youth as well as prevent future forest fires. Whistler Blackcomb consists of 8,000 acres, much of which is heavily wooded terrain.
