Whistler Blackcomb has snow.  There isn’t exactly powder skiing/riding, but there are powder patches in the trees.  That said, the skiing is still badass up here right now and one helluva lot better than most places in the lower 48.

Whistler has 5,000 acres open and 5,020 vertical feet open.  They’ve received 312 cms of snow (over 10 feet) and the coverage is damn good.

Western view this afternoon

Today started overcast with a thick fog on the mid and upper mountain.  The sun burned it down as it lifted and the day ended clear.  The best part of the day was around noon when you could ride chairs above the fog and see all the other major peaks in the area defiantly towering above the gloom.  An inversion kept temps cold down low and mild up top.

Skiing Today, December 7th, 2011:

The groomers are long, fast, and smooth.  The mountain bike runs are perfect, stupid fun, and smile inducing.  The alpine is hard and scratchy.  The tree skiing is good in spots…and pretty funky in spots.  Overall, the skiing is kick ass for this time of the season.

Upper Khybers, Flat Cliffs, Whistler

Upper Khybers was still skiing great today.  Powdery, convoluted, and fun right up until the Flat Cliffs.  After the Flat Cliffs, the strong sun the past few days melted the snow off the trees causing them to drip onto the snow.  Cold overnight temps froze that dripped-on snow to a crunchy, funky, resistant crust that was some of the most challenging snow I’ve skied.

Trail to get back to Whistler from Khybers

A-Line & Easy Does It mountain bike runs have been crazy fun the past few days.  The berms are buffed out and the table tops are clearable.  Some rub on wax right before entry doesn’t hurt.  The faster the better for all of the mountain bike runs.

Black Tusk

The Forecast is for pretty much nothing for the next 7 days.  Which is hard to believe.  It always snows in Whis.  Once this high pressure moves out, I think the storm door for Whistler will be open for a long time…
