If you haven’t read Squallywood cover-to-cover, at least 50 times, what’s your deal? Seriously, this is quite possibly one of the greatest literary efforts ever produced in the ski world. If you don’t know what we’re talking about (WTF?) go buy Dr. Robb Gaffney’s book immediately (buy it locally if you can, or if you have to, even amazon.com carries it), watch the raddest movie ever created- GNAR the movie, study Shane McConkey’s epic game of G.N.A.R., and get yourself better educated in terms of why Squaw Valley USA is the greatest place in the world to ride a chairlift.
In the meantime the Unofficial crew has read Squallywood so many times we just can’t wait till next winter to get this series going, and we want you involved! Over the next several weeks we’ll be posting a series all centered around the raddness of Dr. Gaffney’s masterpiece. We’re open to your thoughts as far as what we should cover, and need your input to rank the “Best Of” as we start the series. For now we’re thinking,
What’s line has the highest fun factor at Squaw?
What’s the sickest huck on the mountain?
The hardest line to get first on a powder day?
Favorite lines in Mainline Pocket, Granite Chief
Peak, China Wall?
Coolest straightline on the mountain?
Best ski movies that feature Squaw?
How do we get KSL to open Squaw’s boundaries
(Granite Chief Wilderness, Shirley Canyon, install
a gate system, etc.)?
Will a local petition and/or a skier/rider lead
grassroots movement ever get Tram Face to be
open and fair game?
Those are some of our current ideas. For the first installment in the series, based on the pictures throughout this post, can you guess what we want to know?
What do you all think is the highest regarded,
rowdiest, most heralded line at Squaw?
Schmidiots?
Something off Tram Face?
Middle Knuckle?
High Line or Center Line on McConkey’s?
