Arapahoe Basin opening on October 28th.

Colorado’s ski season started last week thanks to a surprise Wednesday morning opening day from Arapahoe Basin. Keystone Resort followed on Friday, October 30th, and Wolf Creek managed to get the lifts spinning for Halloween. As of November 5th at 11:19am, this weekend will feature one less open resort, though a few ski areas could get their lifts spinning if the weather cooperates. The 2 ski areas below are, as of Thursday, November 5th, near certain to be open this weekend.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

As already mentioned, Arapahoe Basin kicked off their season on Wednesday, October 28th, becoming the first ski area in North America to open for 7 days a week for the 2026/2027 season. Currently just the Black Mountain Express chairlift and High Noon trail are open, and there’s no word yet on when they’ll open more. That said, High Noon was skiing quite well last week and they’ve only gotten more snowfall since then.

Keystone Resort

Keystone Resort kicked off their ski season on Friday, October 30th, welcoming skiers and snowboarders with two miles of trails across 43 acres of terrain. Uploading and downloading is required via the River Run Gondola. The Montezuma Express 6-person chairlift is providing access to Schoolmarm. Like Arapahoe Basin, there’s no word yet on when further terrain will open.

The Other 5

Not every Colorado ski resort has a firm opening date on the calendar just yet. Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Loveland Ski Area, and Winter Park Resort are all yet to set a start to the 2026-27 season.

Both Breckenridge and Copper Mountain had originally planned to open Friday, November 6th, but the resort has now postponed its opening day and has not announced a replacement date. Meanwhile, Loveland Ski Area and Winter Park Resort are also without confirmed opening dates.

Both mountains have been making snow and are hoping to open as soon as conditions allow, but neither has committed to a specific day. Loveland had previously targeted a late-October or early-November opening, while Winter Park has similarly been working toward an ASAP start.

Wolf Creek Ski Area is also facing some uncertainty. While they were able to open last Saturday, October 31st, they were forced to close beginning November 1st due to historic flooding. They’re yet to announce a reopening date.

Early season skiing is always unpredictable and there’s always a chance that a resort hoping to open in the coming days will be forced to delay. That’s just the reality of this time of year. As of 11:20am on Thursday, November 5th, the other 5 resorts are yet to announce any changes. We’ll be sure to update you if we hear anything, though.
