Wyoming — Remember Peak Resorts?

a bunch of purple grapes with faces and the words oh i member below them

Back in the 2010s, they were a powerhouse in the ski industry. This included ski resorts in the Midwest and Northeast. Some of their accomplishments include opening ski areas, the revival of Crotched Mountain, adding the bubble chairlift at Mount Snow, and the expansion of Hunter Mountain.

However, their 2019 sale to Vail Resorts led the Boyd family to leave the ski industry. Now they’re back, but at a surprising location in the United States.

Yesterday, Snowy Range Ski Area announced plans for an ownership change. The Maddox family, which has owned the ski resort since 2010, is planning to step aside. Back in 2010, the ski area was in need of repairs, especially the chairlifts. They turned it around, growing visitation and gaining recognition from Ski Area Management.

According to Cowboy State Daily, the new owners have a long history in ski resort management. Jesse Boyd, Jesse Boyd, Joshua Boyd, and buddy Brednan Ryan were all part of the management team of Peak Resorts. They’re back because they missed the challenges and joys of running ski resorts. They opened the door to acquiring a few more ski resorts, but don’t aspire to restart “empire building.” According to the article, the deal has not yet been finalized.

About Snowy Range

Situated in Medicine Bow National Forest, Snowy Range is a hidden gem ski resort. Snowy Range features 27 trails across 250 skiable acres, 5 lifts, and a vertical drop of 990 feet. It also offers trails for cross-country skiers. Lift tickets are affordable, costing $59 for adults on weekdays and $69 on weekends and during peak periods.

An interesting part about Snowy Range is its relationship with multi-mountain passes. One of the closest ski resorts to Snowy Range is Steamboat Resort, making it a vacation idea for some Wyoming skiers. Because of this, Steamboat Resort offered discounted ticket pack deals for Snowy Range skiers. For this winter, they’re now offering a discounted Ikon Session Pass for Snowy Range passholders. Additionally, Snowy Range has joined the Ikon Pass as a bonus mountain, meaning full passholders get two days there.
