Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Hannah Teter is asking for support for her brother Abe, who has been battling a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer for more than 19 years. Teter shared Abe’s story through a GoFundMe campaign seeking financial support for a new treatment that could potentially help preserve his remaining eye and prevent the cancer from spreading further.
Abe Teter Has Battled Cancer For Nearly Two Decades
According to the GoFundMe description, Abe has undergone numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IV treatments, prescription medications and other treatments throughout his fight against the disease.
Despite those efforts the cancer has continued to progress. Abe has already lost his left eye, while the disease now threatens his right eye. Teter also said there remains a risk that the cancer could spread to his brain.
“Abe is one of the strongest people I know. Even through years of pain, disfigurement, uncertainty, and setbacks, he has continued to remain positive, hopeful, and optimistic. He has always been the kind of person who inspires everyone around him.
Abe is the reason I started snowboarding and competing. He has been one of my greatest role models throughout my life.” – Hannah Teter
Family Seeks Support For New Treatment
After nearly two decades of treatment, Abe has spent almost everything he has on medical care. Doctors around the country have struggled to find effective options for his specific cancer. The family is now seeking donations to help Abe pursue a new cutting edge treatment protocol. According to the fundraiser, the treatment has shown promise but currently receives little if any insurance coverage.
The financial goal is to give Abe an opportunity to pursue the treatment while attempting to stop the cancer from progressing and preserve the vision in his remaining eye. Teter is also asking people who cannot contribute financially to share Abe’s story with their communities.
Hannah Teter Asks For Support
The fundraiser is seeking donations to help cover the cost of Abe’s potential treatment and ongoing medical care. The campaign also asks supporters to keep Abe in their thoughts and prayers as he continues his fight against the disease. Currently the campaign has raised over $30,000, more than half of the $60,000 goal. You can contribute to support Abe through the GoFundMe campaign here.
