Search and rescue teams have recovered the body of Neil Gehring, a Washington hiker who had been reported missing in Olympic National Park earlier this month.
Gehring was located Sunday evening on the northwest slope of Mt. Appleton after searchers obtained and analyzed additional cell phone location data. The discovery brought an end to a multi-day search effort involving numerous search and rescue personnel.
Search Teams Locate Gehring on Mt. Appleton
According to the National Park Service, searchers located Gehring after receiving additional cell phone location information that helped narrow the search area.
His body was recovered from the northwest slope of Mt. Appleton and transferred to the Clallam County Coroner’s Office at approximately 8pm on September 13th.
The National Park Service has not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding Gehring’s death. The agency said no further information is available at this time.
The recovery follows an earlier public appeal for assistance in locating Gehring. Olympic National Park had asked the public to provide information that could help search teams determine his whereabouts.
