Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) officials a video documenting the damage to SR-153 through Beaver Canyon after recent flooding and the outlook is rather dire:
“Here is just a small glimpse into the damage along SR-153 in Beaver following the recent flooding. The impacted area stretches for miles.” -UDOT
Several sections of the highway suffered massive damage with the most severe located between mile markers 7.5 and 10.5. The highway is is the primary access road to Eagle Point Resort. Access to the ski resort through Beaver Canyon is currently closed indefinitely.
“Rebuilding and repairing this infrastructure will require extensive, multi-agency coordination across local, state, and regional partners. We’ll keep you posted as repair plans are finalized and more details become available.” -UDOT
There is no current timetable as to when repairs will begin or when they will be completed. UDOT surveyors and engineers are currently assessing the corridor from the air and on the ground, as conditions allow.
“For now, plan for the route to remain closed for the foreseeable future.” -UDOT
Updates will be provided as assessments continue and new information becomes available. For now all we can do for now is wait and hope for timeline when they will begin to tackle this monumental reconstruction project.
