19-year-old Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi tragically passed away following a training crash on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales. Her death was shared by the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS) on Tuesday.
“FIS joins FISI President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian winter sports community in mourning, including coaches, athletes, teammates, the federal council, and all FISI staff. Matilde was tragically lost following a fall during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales.” – FIS
Lorenzi, who skied for the Italian Army, was a rising star in Italian ski racing. At last year’s FIS Junior World Ski Championships in France, Lorenzi took sixth place in Downhill and eighth place in Super G.
