Jumping a crevasse on Everest.
Jumping a crevasse on Everest.

MOUNT EVEREST – Massachusetts native Ryan Mitchell summited Mount Everest back in mid-May of this year. He made it both up and down with no injuries. On the descent, in the legendary Khumbu Icefall, Mitchell and guide ran into a bit of a road block. While most crevasses have a ladder across them for easy passage, this one did not, so they were forced to jump. It doesn’t look like the most intense jump in the world, but if anyone had fallen, it could have been devastating.

Mitchell documented the entire process on his YouTube channel. If you haven’t watched any of it, make sure to check it out. His videos do a great job at displaying what it actually looks like to climb the world’s tallest mountain. He has day-to-day coverage in addition to longer, discussion videos on cost, risks, and controversies.

He also shared a full 40 minute long video of the entire descent of Everest. If you’re ever wondered what it looks like, this is a great video to help you understand. Also, consider donating to The Juniper Fund, which raises money to support the Sherpas guides and their families around Everest.
