World record for highest altitude ski-BASE jump (18,753 ft)

Congratulations to 34-year-old Joshua Bregmen who set a new world record for highest altitude ski-BASE jump (18,753 ft) after sending it off Mera Peak in the Himalayas. The previous record was held by France’s Matthias Giraud at 14,301 feet.

Bregmen’s team spent two weeks preparing for his record setting jump including getting to remote location, clearing the in-run of debris and filling it in with snow. He dreamed of laying down a few carves and “ski eloquently off the cliff” but the terrain dictated that he basically straight line and jump. Might not have been skied eloquently but with Everest looming in the background, this record setting ski stunt was incredibly dramatic.
