“It’s no secret to anybody that there’s a lot of deferred maintenance on this mountain.”- Attitash GM Greg Gavrilets

Could Attitiash finally live up to its potential? The mountain has struggled for years with poor ownership, resulting in frequent lift breakdowns and slow snowmaking operations. But the money is now being put in for the mountain to compete with the New Hampshire heavyweights. The Worcester Telegram caught up with Greg Gavrilets, the new General Manager of the mountain. Greg started his career as a ski patroller and terrain park manager at Ober Gatlinburg. He became GM at various Vail properties in the Midwest, while also getting an MBA. Another positive is Gavrilets has a lot of experience from working at Mount Snows Carinthia parks, which are regarded as some of the best terrain parks in the Northeast.

Improvements over the offseason included adding snowmaking to Wilfred’s Gawn, a challenging trail off of Attitashs summit. A new groomer was also added to their network, and the Flying Yankee high-speed quad underwent a maintenance project. Events will also be making a comeback at the Abenaki terrain parks over on the Bear Peak side. Next year will see the replacement of the East-West doubles with a fixed-grip quad. You can see a breakdown we did of that lift replacement here. The lift services beginner and intermediate terrain. Another upcoming project is the improvement of the Bear Peak base area. This part was kinda vague, but my guesses would be maybe a lift replacement, a renovation or expansion of their base lodge, or the renovation of the Grand Summit Hotel.

The elephant in the room is the Summit Triple. The slow chairlift to Attitash’s summit frequently has mechanical issues, and locals have wanted the lift to be replaced for years. Heres’s what GM Greg Gavrilets said about the inevitable Summit Triple replacement:

“It’s a high priority for both the resort and the enterprise in general. I hope we’ll have some positive news about that lift replacement in the future, and it’s something that I’m working on and that our entire team is working on.”

Looks like Attitash is bracing for a big comeback. You love to see it.  Image Credits: Attitash Mountain Resort
