12 climbers are reported to have perished after an extreme blizzard triggered an avalanche in the Alborz Mountains north of Tehran, Iran. Another dozen climbers are reported to have survived the slide.
The Alborz Mountains are a popular tourist destination for winter recreation, and include several ski resorts. The storm forced a ski area to stop it’s cable car near the top of the mountain stranding 100 skiers, but no injuries or deaths have been reported.
Our condolences to the friends and families of the deceased.
