Stowe, Vermont — Stowe’s oldest operating chairlift has a new name.

Opened back in the 1979-80 season, the Lookout Double serves a variety of terrain. The Riblet double chairlift has a length of 5,341 feet and a vertical rise of 1,750 feet. Currently, it offers a less congested queue and ride up during peak periods than the Forerunner and Sunrise high-speed chairlifts.

Yesterday, Stowe Mountain Resort announced a surprising name change. The Lookout Double will now be known as Fletcher’s Lookout. This is in honor of Mark Fletcher, who recently retired after a long career at the ski resort. He was on the lift maintenance team for 45 years, meaning he was around for nearly the lift’s entire lifespan.

Stowe is aiming to open for the season on November 21st, conditions permitting.
