Ski season hasn’t started at Utah’s Sundance Mountain Resort, but one of its chairlifts will be spinning tonight for an entirely different reason. The resort is bringing back its Halloween Lift Rides giving visitors a chance to experience the mountain after dark with a spooky seasonal twist.
Starting Monday, October 26, Sundance will operate its Outlaw Express chairlift from 7 to 10 p.m. nightly through Halloween on October 31. Instead of carrying skiers and snowboarders, the lift will take guests on a spooky 30 to 45 minute ride through the mountains.
According to the resort’s official Halloween Lift Rides announcement, the experience is designed for families and couples looking for something different to do in the mountains before winter arrives. Halloween treats, hot chocolate, food and other concessions will be available, along with blankets and sweatshirts to help guests stay warm.
Halloween Chairlift Rides Through October 31
The experience is intended to be family friendly rather than an intense haunted attraction, although Sundance recommends it for children ages 10 and older.
The resort is also offering a 50% ticket discount to guests holding a valid 2025-26 winter season pass or 2026 summer season pass. To claim the discount, passholders must visit the Activity Center after 6:30 p.m. on the night they plan to ride.
Sundance uses the Outlaw Express throughout the warmer months for scenic chairlift rides, carrying visitors toward Mandan Summit and providing access to views of the surrounding Wasatch Mountains. The Halloween event gives guests a chance to experience that same terrain in a completely different setting.
Sundance isn’t the only ski area putting its chairlifts to creative use this Halloween. Earlier this month, Oregon’s Mt. Ashland transformed its chairlift into a trick-or-treating experience, complete with a haunted trail and costumed characters.
For anyone interested in attending Sundance’s final Halloween Lift Rides of 2026, the event runs nightly from October 26 through October 31, with tickets available through the resort’s website.
