It’s far too early to predict how much snow will fall across the United States this winter, even though snow has fallen in several areas of the country. We can look at climate data to make educated guesses on the general temperature and precipitation trends, but knowing exactly how much snow will actually hit the ground is simply impossible.
Despite the extreme unlikelihood of successfully guessing the amount of snow that will fall, Powder Mountain Snow Reporter Elliott asked several resort staff members to guess how much of the white stuff the ski area will see throughout the winter. The guesses showed a pretty wide range, but overall there seemed to be quite a lot of optimism heading into the 2026/2027 ski season.
Average Annual Snowfall
Utah’s Powder Mountain sees an average annual snowfall of over 360 inches. Many of the guesses stuck close to that average, but a handful of guesses reached about 600, including one that stretched up to 900 inches.
An El Niño season could mean some good snowfall for Utah, but 900 inches would be quite a monster of a season. Most people would be pretty happy with an above average winter, there’s no doubt about that.
