Valle Nevado in Chile has extended its 2026 ski season into November following an extraordinary stretch of spring snowfall. The resort just announced that its slopes will remain open through Sunday, November 8th, giving skiers and snowboarders several more weeks to take advantage of what has become a remarkably long season.
Valle Nevado Will Keep Skiing Into November
The extension comes as a major surprise for a Southern Hemisphere ski season that would normally be winding down by this point in the year. It’s a historic decision from the resort, inspired by the request of guests.
Those planning to visit the resort should check the Valle Nevado Mountain Report before heading up to confirm which trails, lifts, and other services are open. This season extension provides the rare opportunity to make turns well beyond the traditional end of the Chilean ski season.
More Than 43 Inches Of Snow In 48 Hours
The decision follows a remarkable storm that brought more than 43 inches of new snow in just 48 hours. The snow continued into Wednesday, October 8th, bringing more than a meter of fresh snow to the slopes in the middle of the Chilean spring.
The resort’s 2026 season snowfall total is currently at 271.7 inches, quickly approaching a total of 23 feet. The combination of a massive October storm and substantial seasonal snowfall have allowed Valle Nevado to continue operating when many ski areas in the Southern Hemisphere have already closed.
An Unusually Long 2026 Season
Valle Nevado’s November 8th closing date puts the resort on track to be one of the latest ski resorts open in the Southern Hemisphere this year. Northern Hemisphere skiers who are hoping to get a few warmup laps before the snow starts falling in the late fall have a month to head down south.
Visitors should continue checking the Mountain Report before traveling for the latest information on open terrain, lifts, road conditions, and available services.
