Professional skiers tend to use some pretty unique lifts and workouts for their summer preseason training, but this bit from U.S. Ski Team member Jett Seymour stands out as wildly bizarre.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Jett, as with all U.S. Ski Team members, has incredibly strong legs and an incredible strong core, allowing him to pull something like this off. Even with his strength, though, this challenge comes with a pretty immense amount of risk. Frankly we’re a bit shocked the U.S. Ski Team shared this footage given the potential risk of injury, but we’re sure glad they did.
This challenge sees Seymour holding himself upside down between two barbells sat upright with several plates anchoring them to the ground. Using his feet and what must be a ridiculous amount of core and leg strength, he manages to lift what looks to be a 10kg plate (around 22 pounds) from one barbell to the other. He nearly brings the plate back, too, but drops it in the process. Nonetheless, truly an impressive feat.
Preseason Ski Workout
As you are likely not a professional skier, this sort of workout is almost certainly not for you (again, please don’t try this at home). If you are looking for guidance on fall training for the season ahead, focus on leg and core strengthening through lifts like lunges, squats, Romanian deadlifts (or regular deadlifts, if you prefer), and woodchoppers.
Find a routine that works for you, but know that a mix of both cardio and strengthening exercises are important if you want to hit the slopes without needing a break after every lap. Dryland workouts like the one found in this article are a great place to start.
