Ski Portillo in Chile is reporting another round of fresh snow as the resort heads toward the final weeks of its 2026 ski season. The high-altitude resort recorded 8 inches of snow in the past 24 hours and 22 inches over the past seven days, adding to an already substantial snowpack in the Andes.
Portillo has received 402 inches of snow this season, according to its latest snow report. The resort sits at approximately 9,450 feet above sea level, well above treeline in the central Andes.
The latest conditions show off why Portillo remains an important destination for North American skiers looking for turns during the Northern Hemisphere summer. Its ski season typically runs through the North American summer months, providing an opportunity to ski while most U.S. and Canadian resorts are closed.
Portillo Snow Depth Remains Strong
The latest report shows some major snow depths across the mountain. The Plateau run is reporting 110 inches of snow, while Juncalillo has 57 inches. The snow depth at the hotel is currently listed at 100 inches.
Portillo describes its snowpack as having intermountain characteristics, with generally stable conditions and a high-alpine environment. The resort is also known for receiving short, intense storms that can deliver several feet of snow before giving way to sunny weather.
More Snow Possible This Week
The forecast calls for unsettled weather to continue through the coming days. Monday’s forecast calls for light snow showers with temperatures ranging from 28 to 39 degrees Fahrenheit. Tuesday is expected to be cloudy, with temperatures between 33 and 41 degrees.
Light snow showers are currently forecast for Wednesday and Thursday as well. Wednesday’s temperatures are expected to range from 34 to 39 degrees, while Thursday could see temperatures between 32 and 38 degrees.
Portillo’s high elevation means weather can change rapidly, and additional snowfall could improve conditions as the 2026 season moves toward its conclusion. Currently the Chilean ski resort is scheduled to close on October 12th, 2026.
