An Australian ski resort has been forced to close for the rest of the 2026 season after rain and unfavorable temperatures demaged the remaining snowpack.
Selwyn Snow Resort in New South Wales announced on their website that the mountain would close for the remainder of the winter season following a challenging stretch of weather. The resort said rain on Thursday significantly impacted snow coverage across the ski area.
Selwyn’s mountain team worked to determine whether the resort could reopen, but the cold temperatures needed for snowmaking failed to arrive. With conditions no longer supporting a return to skiing and snowboarding, the resort made the decision to end its 2026 season.
Unused Tickets
Guests with unused Ticket Mania and Black Friday vouchers, along with those who had bookings scheduled for the remainder of the season, have been contacted directly. Guests are encouraged to check the email associated with their booking or purchase for additional information.
The resort thanked guests who visited throughout the 2026 season, including families, first time skiers, and snowboarders and visitors who came for lessons, tobogganing, or time at the Selwyn Centre.
Major Snowmaking Upgrades Planned For 2027
While the 2026 season has ended earlier than Selwyn hoped, the resort is already looking toward next winter. Selwyn Snow Resort said significant upgrades to its snowmaking infrastructure are planned for the 2027 season. The improvements are expected to strengthen the resort’s ability to produce snow when natural conditions are unfavorable.
