Some people love snowboarding and mountain biking so much that they buy a place near their favorite resort, or they completely move to their favorite resorts. Matt Lewis of Rossland, British Columbia, loves snowboarding and mountain biking so much that he built his house around snowboard/mountain bike trails.
Professional mountain biker Mark Matthews met up with Matt to check out the property, trying out the different trails and exploring the area around Rossland. His land is right near RED Mountain Resort, a top notch destination for both skiing and mountain biking.
Matt’s trails are built for both snowboarding and mountain biking, with some features meant for one or the other and others meant for both. The area includes berms, jumps, step downs, natural terrain, and much more. He’s owned the property for around 10 years, building out the trails over the decade. Of course the land itself naturally lends itself to riding thanks to the steep hill.
The House Built Around Bike Trails
Perhaps the most interesting part of the entire story is that the house was built only around 2 years ago. Instead of building trails around his house, Matt built his house around the trails. According to his description, even a 20 foot difference in where the house was built would have dramatically altered the route, and he wanted to ensure the jump line was set up perfectly before the permanent structure went in.
Matt’s property is incredibly cool and incredibly well thought out, but it is private property. Don’t head to Rossland, British Columbia, hoping to ride on his build. Rossland has plenty of its own mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding opportunities that are open to the public, so make sure to check those out instead.
