Wild scene from La Parva Ski Resort in Chile where their central chairlift caught fire during a busy Saturday afternoon. Chilean police report the Alpha Quad Chairlift caught fire after a plastic pipe came into contact with the chairlift’s motor exhaust pipe. The fire was quickly extinguished and chairlift closed temporarily. No injuries were reported.
The blaze broke out during a period of heavy snow for the South American resort with a storm cycle dropping approximately 6+ feet of fresh snow in a week. The rest of the chairlifts at La Parva remained operational during the incident but some sections of the mountain were restricted due to the low visibility caused by the heavy snowfall affecting the area.
