A San Antonio police officer served a 15-day suspension this summer after failing to report a severe public intoxication incident that led to his hospitalization at a New Mexico ski resort.
Officer Taylor Thompson, a five-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) served the suspension from June 17 to July 1 after internal affairs cited him for rule violations related to intoxication and failing to notify his immediate supervisor of law enforcement contact.
The suspension stems from a January 6, w2026 incident at Taos Ski Valley in Taos County, New Mexico, where officers dispatched to the base area found Thompson highly intoxicated.
According to discipline records:
- Physical state: Arriving officers noted Thompson had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol, and was so confused he could not communicate. He was seen using a ski rack to balance himself, and an eyewitness described him as “super intoxicated.”
- Surveillance footage: Security video showed Thompson drinking pre-packaged liquor bottles in public, staggering, and falling down before requiring medical transport to a local hospital.
- On-scene identification: Thompson identified himself as law enforcement to officers and told an attending medic that he was an SAPD officer.
The incident also resulted in the arrest of Thompson’s girlfriend on charges of battery on a peace officer and concealing her identity. SAPD was notified of the incident the following day when a lieutenant with the Village of Taos Ski Valley Department of Public Safety emailed internal affairs directly.
