Big Mountain Freeride Skiing & Snowboarding Approved For 2030 Winter Olympics
Big Mountain Freeride Skiing & Snowboarding Approved For 2030 Winter Olympics

Amazing news from the International Olympic Committee Executive Board meeting today where it was announced freeride skiing and snowboarding will make their first appearance on the Olympic stage at Alpes 2030 which will be held across the French Alps.

The new events approval follows the recommendations of the Olympic Programme Working Group. There will four freeride gold medals up for grabs with athletes from men’s ski, men’s snowboard, women’s ski, and women’s snowboard to be featured for the first time on an Olympic stage.

“Freeride has experienced rapid international growth, benefitting from a strong youth fanbase and visually spectacular competition. It uses a natural field of play, which minimizes its impact on the Games. Comprising four events, it will provide an Olympic opportunity for 44 athletes (22 women and 22 men) to compete at the Games for the first time. Freeride started in the 1990s to develop as a discipline.”

This is breaking news as of 2 hours ago and details currently sparse. We will be sure to follow up at length when more information becomes available. Can’t wait to see the world’s best big mountain skiers and snowboarders represent their countries on the biggest stage in sports. Lets GO!!!

Again details are sparse but the French Alps have some of the best freeride venues on the planet including Chamonix. Here is a taste of what a freeride competition run in Chamonix looks like.
