Las Vegas, Nevada — If you find yourself sweltering on the Las Vegas Strip this summer, you should know that there’s a place you can cool down that’s just an hour away.

Yesterday, Lee Canyon held a grand opening ceremony for its new multi-use trail. While the hike opened to the public on May 2nd, this ceremony celebrated its opening with the community. The event was attended by representatives from Lee Canyon, U.S. Forest Service, All Mountain Cyclery, Vibe Girls Las Vegas hiking club, Blacks in Nature, and Smokey Bear.

The High Pines Trail is a 4-mile round-trip for hikers, trail runners, and uphill-only mountain bikers. The difficulty is described as moderate, with an elevation gain of 850 feet. Hikers can begin the trail at the Bristlecone base area or by taking the Sherwood chairlift. If you’re hoping to get a chairlift ride either up or down, you’ll have to purchase a ticket. The trail features many photo-worthy moments, including a replica of the Las Vegas sign.

Next up on the events calendar for Lee Canyon is Mountain Fest on June 27th. The event will feature live music, craft beer tasting, food, outdoor activities, games, and contests.

Work is also underway this offseason on a new terrain expansion for next winter. The West Bowl expansion, which will be served by a new fixed-grip quad chairlift, is expected to open during the 2026-27 season.
