A missing hiker was located safe Sunday morning after an overnight search in Mount Hood National Forest in northwestern Oregon, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Patricia Maxine Wolff, 52, of Sandy, Oregon, left her family’s campsite near Middle Rock Lake on Saturday afternoon with the family’s Doberman to explore Upper Rock Lake and did not return. Her husband reported her missing shortly after 5:30pm on June 13th.
Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue coordinators mobilized multiple teams, including SAR volunteers, a drone team, Mountain Wave Communications, and PNW Search and Rescue. Crews worked through the night and resumed searching Sunday morning.
Aerial resources were added as the search continued, including a Life Flight helicopter and a Sheriff’s Office fixed-wing Cessna 182 equipped with thermal imaging cameras.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday, a satellite text message to 911 allowed dispatchers to obtain GPS coordinates from Wolff’s phone. The Sheriff’s Office airplane used that location to find her and her dog. Ground crews reached her shortly after 11:00am Neither Wolff nor the dog required medical attention.
Wolff was returned to the command post around 2:30pm and reunited with her family. All search and rescue teams cleared the area by approximately 2:45pm.
