Tragic news out of Yellowstone National Park where a 41-year-old man from Denver, Colorado was found floating dead in the water in Yellowstone Lake on June 8th.

According to a press release from the National Park Service, the body was found by occupants of a vessel on the lake on Monday morning, floating in the water near Rock Point. Rangers responded to the scene and recovered to body, finding a capsized kayak and personal belongings as well.

The individual was identified as Brandon Rhea of Denver, Colorado. The incident remains under investigation and no further details are available at this time. Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of the deceased at this time.

Yellowstone Lake is the largest high elevation lake in North America, sitting at 7,733 feet in elevation. It’s about 20 miles wide and 14 miles wide and features 141 miles of shoreline and a surface area of 132 square miles. Boating is allowed on Yellowstone Lake, though the Park Service warns that temperatures can be very cold and sudden strong winds can produce waves of three to five feet in height.
