Zion National Park is set to reopen South Campground on Friday, May 29th, with reservations now available through Recreation.gov.

The campground sits near the park’s South Entrance, within walking distance of the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, the Zion Canyon Shuttle System, and the town of Springdale. It is one of three developed, reservable campgrounds in the park, alongside Watchman and Lava Point Campgrounds. Reservations can be made up to 14 days before arrival. The National Park Service expects spots to fill rapidly during the summer season and encourages visitors to check availability before making travel plans.

Campers should review park regulations before arriving. Check-in begins at noon and check-out is at 11am. Quiet hours run from 10pm to 8am and generator use is permitted only from 8 to 10am and again from 6 to 8pm. All food, trash, toiletries, pet food, and scented items must be stored properly or disposed of in designated receptacles. Pets are allowed in developed campgrounds but must remain on a leash and cannot create unreasonable noise.

Summer conditions in Zion are serious. The campground sits in a desert environment where daytime temperatures regularly top 95 degrees. Visitors should arrive with adequate water, sun protection, and supplies suited for extreme heat.

Stage 2 fire restrictions are currently in effect at South Campground, prohibiting all open fires, including campfires and charcoal fires. Campers should check current fire restriction status before arriving and throughout their stay.

South Campground is expected to remain open through summer and fall before closing for winter. Updates will be posted on the park website and Zion National Park’s social media channels.
