The Blue Ridge Parkway is welcoming visitors back this Memorial Day Weekend as campgrounds, picnic areas, and visitor centers open for the season, but officials are urging travelers to prepare for significant delays and closures along the route.

Multiple maintenance and repair projects are active across several sections of the Parkway this season. The work stems primarily from ongoing Hurricane Helene repairs alongside two major Great American Outdoors Act road projects underway in North Carolina and Virginia. Visitors must avoid all closed sections and exercise caution near active work zones.

Milepost-by-milepost status updates, detour maps, and project information are available on the Parkway’s website and interactive map. Travelers are strongly encouraged to check conditions before heading out.

he Parkway recently reopened direct access to the Linville Falls trail system at milepost 316.4 via a 1.5-mile spur road. The trail system also remains accessible from Old NC 105 through a U.S. Forest Service parking lot, though the visitor center, picnic area, and campground at that location are still closed.

Facility schedules and operating hours are available online and through the NPS App. Camping reservations can be made at Recreation.gov.
