Tabanelli siblings gap the road as Giro d'Italia racer Tadej Pogačar passes beneath.

The 2026 Giro d’Italia is set to begin on Friday, May 8th, marking the start of a 23 day journey through Italy. It’s one of cycling’s, and the world’s, most difficult and demanding races, asking athletes to ride over 100 miles on average every day and climb nearly 160,000 feet throughout the entire race.

With the popularity of skiing in Italy’s mountains, the race always manages to pass through or around a handful of ski resorts, and two skiers decided to take advantage of the bikes for a pretty gnarly video/photo opportunity during the 2024 Giro d’Italia.

Italian freeskiers Miro Tabanelli (19 at the time) and Flora Tabanelli (16 at the time) gapped the road along that day’s final climb into Livigno. The siblings didn’t just gap the right as the race leader Tadej Pogačar passed underneath them, making for one of the more epic scenes we’ve seen in a bike race.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone jump the road in a big bike race. Some mountain biker seems to jump the Tour de France every few years. But this is one of very few times we’ve seen skiers do it. Pretty wild stuff. Cheers to the Tabanelli siblings for pulling this sweet stunt off.
