PARK CITY, Utah — Alpine skiing star Lindsey Vonn was named Wednesday to the 48-member USA Ski Team for the 2026-27 season, though the nomination does not guarantee the veteran will return to competition.
The 41-year-old is coming off a major injury sustained during the downhill event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Vonn required multiple corrective surgeries to repair a complex tibia fracture in her left leg.
While Vonn returned to gym training less than a month after the crash, her competitive future remains uncertain. In an interview with The Associated Press last week, the five-time Olympian said she has not yet decided whether to continue her career or retire.
“Nothing would really happen until ’27-28.” -Lindsey Vonn
Vonn was nominated to the U.S. Alpine “A Team” alongside three-time Olympic gold medalist and reigning World Cup overall champion Mikaela Shiffrin and Olympic downhill champion Breezy Johnson.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard officials noted that selection to the roster is largely a formality at this stage. Athletes who accept their nominations and meet performance requirements will be officially named to the team in October.
The 2026-27 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season is scheduled to begin October 25th, 2026 with the giant slalom on the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden, Austria.
