Snowmobile avalanche fatality @ Island Park, Idaho

ISLAND PARK, Idaho — One person was killed Sunday after an avalanche caught a group of four snowmobilers near Island Park.

Fremont County Sheriff Search and Rescue crews assisted neighboring Clark County in the response and have confirmed one fatality. The victim’s identity has not been released. Details about what the group was doing in the area or what triggered the avalanche have not been released.

The surviving snowmobilers involved in the slide were safely assisted back with help from Fremont County Search and Rescue volunteers and other emergency responders. Crews from Madison County and Gallatin County, Montana, also supported the operations.

Additional details are expected to be released by authorities Monday.
