Salida, Colorado — While it’s been a below-average season for Colorado’s ski industry, there’s been one major highlight. On January 29th, the No Name Basin expansion opened up at Monarch Mountain. We’ve covered this expansion a lot recently, as it’s a major move for a modestly sized Colorado ski area. However, we haven’t seen many video perspectives of people skiing this new terrain.
That was until this past weekend. YouTuber Colorado Camera offers detailed explorations of ski areas across the state and takes on some gnarly terrain along the way. In this one, he checks out the new No Name Basin expansion. While it was definitely low tide when he filmed this, it’s still cool to see a POV of the terrain.
About No Name Basin
The 377-acre terrain expansion adds new intermediate and advanced pistes and glades to the ski area, resulting in a 50% increase in skiable acres at Monarch. The new terrain pod has a vertical drop of nearly 1,000 feet. There are two entry points to get there: the Prospector trail via the Breezeway lift, and the Great Divide trail, which you reach by going on the Panorama lift.
A new SkyTrac fixed-grip triple chair serves No Name Basin. At the base of this terrain pod is a warming hut and vault toilets.
Thanks to this expansion, Monarch now has 80 trails across 1,146 skiable acres, 9 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,225 feet.
