A pretty intense moment was captured on camera at Mammoth Mountain in California this weekend, as a young snowboarder fell from a chairlift to the ground below. The mountain staff quickly rushed to assist, setting up padding and a net below to catch the individual as she fell, but she wound up mostly missing the net and falling near directly to the ground.
The video was shared by influencer Hello Kristen, who used the incident to discuss the importance of putting the bar down. However according to several comments, the bar not being down wasn’t the issue.
One person in the comments claimed to be the mother of the 12-year-old snowboarder who fell. According to her comment, she girl slipped right as she boarded the lift, forcing the mother and father to hold on for as long as possible. They never even had the chance to put the bar down.
“It was a series of small choices that happened quickly that led to a fluke accident. As a mother I know it is my job to protect my child. We held on as long as we could. Long enough to have people get into position to allow her to walk away.” – Jessica C.
Based on the same comment, the girl fortunately managed to make it out of the incident without any major injuries and no broken bones. While this situation wasn’t a case of the bar needing to be put down, it can still serve as a reminder to the importance of putting the bar down for safety.
