Columbia Sportswear flat earth challenge
Columbia Sportswear flat earth challenge

Interesting new challenge issued by the CEO of outdoor clothing giant Columbia Sportswear, Tim Boyle, who has bet “the company” against anyone who can produce photo evidence proving that the earth not a globe rather a flat plane:

“Flat Earthers, this oneโ€™s for you. Post a photo proving youโ€™ve reached the Edge of the Earth, and get everything owned by the company.”

Looks like Columbia got some legal eagles involved to hedge their bets for the unlikely outcome that anyone actually proves the flat-earth theory as the company refers to “The Company, LLC with assets which are valued at $100,000.”

Knowing that folks will get clever with $100,000 at stake, Columbia went on to futher define the The Edge of the Earth as a visible, physical end to the planet Earth.

“Weโ€™re talking infinite sheer drop, abyssal void, clouds cascading into infinity. What is not The Edge of the Earth: A clifftop in Seattle. A cul-de-sac in Kansas. Or your buddy Dave legally changing his name to The Edge.โ€

Clever way to get a bit of media buzz during the holiday buying season. Well played Mr. Boyle.
