Climbing under a flying plane.
Climbing under a flying plane.

Red Bull is known for its wild stunts, from supporting the highest skateboard drop-in to sponsoring athletes as they grind the San Francisco Bay Bridge on a sky surfer. Their most recent stunt saw professional climber Domen Å kofic attempt to become the first person to master a climbing route under the wings of a flying plane.

The incredible climbing route is graded around an 8a, but there’s a few added challenges beyond just fighting gravity. In this attempt, Domen was facing temperatures around 14°F (-10°C) and an airflow of around 50-62mph (80-100km/h). The fact that the glider was custom built by Red Bull doesn’t make it any easier, either.

Combining a glider with climbing and skydiving isn’t something I necessarily expected to see today, but it’s a welcome surprise. Congrats to Domen and his entire team for this wild accomplishment.
