Winter lovers rejoice! Some serious snowfall is expected along Colorado’s Front Range mountains this week, with some higher altitude areas potentially receiving over 6 inches on the ground.

According to the National Weather Service, between today, September 22nd, and Thursday, September 25th, areas around Rocky Mountain National Park and near the Loveland Pass/Eisenhower Tunnel area could see between 2-8 inches of snowfall. Many other areas throughout the Front Range are likely to see at least a dusting of new snow. Anyone traveling through the mountains in the coming days should be prepared to encounter slick and dangerous road conditions.

Most areas expecting notable snowfall are the higher mountain pass regions. Eisenhower Tunnel, Berthoud Pass, Milner Pass, Loveland Pass, Echo Lake, and Cameron Pass are all likely to see at least 2 inches of snowfall throughout the storm. The 8 locations likely to see the highest snowfall totals, according to the National Weather Service, break down as follows:
- EMJ Tunnel: Expected 4″ of snow, with a 91% chance of >0.1″, 86% for >1″, 79% for >2″, and 62% for >4″. Highest snowfall potential.
- Berthoud Pass: Expected 3″ of snow, with an 86% chance of >0.1″, 79% for >1″, 71% for >2″, and 54% for >4″. Significant snow likely.
- Milner Pass: Expected 3″ of snow, with an 80% chance of >0.1″, 73% for >1″, 65% for >2″, and 46% for >4″. Notable accumulation expected.
- Loveland Pass: Expected 2″ of snow, with an 85% chance of >0.1″, 77% for >1″, 68% for >2″, and 49% for >4″. Strong snow potential.
- Echo Lake: Expected 2″ of snow, with a 65% chance of >0.1″, 56% for >1″, 46% for >2″, and 28% for >4″. Moderate to high snow likelihood.
- Cameron Pass: Expected 2″ of snow, with a 61% chance of >0.1″, 53% for >1″, 44% for >2″, and 25% for >4″. Decent snow potential.
