Our thoughts go out to Italian ski racer Matteo Franzoso who suffered multiple brain injuries after a fall Saturday September 13th, 2025 during training camp in La Parva, Chile. The Italian Ski Federation reports the 25-year-old downhill skier originally from Genoa is currently hospitalized in a clinic in Santiago. He is in intensive care and in a medically induced coma.
“After the fall on the slopes, emergency medical care was provided immediately, and Franzoso was airlifted to the Chilean capital, where he can rely on the best local medical care. The FISI Medical Commission is in constant contact with Chilean paramedics, who are monitoring the situation.” -Italian Ski Federation
Franzoso won a super-G race on the second-tier European Cup circuit in 2021 and has competed in 17 World Cup events in alpine skiing in downhill and Super-G. Updates on the young Italian athlete’s condition will follow and we will be sure to update as information becomes available.
