COLORADO – The North Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is set to reopen on July 30, 2025, after it was shut down due to the South Rim wildfire.
Once open, visitors will be able to access trails, overlooks, and the North Rim Campground. Park staff will be at the ranger station from 10am to 3pm daily to answer questions and provide permits.
The 13 sites of the North Rim Campground will be open on a first-come, first-served basis. As the campground is quite small, it is limited to vehicles less than 22 feet long. The South Rim of the park will remain closed due to ongoing firefighting activity.
The South Rim Fire began on July 10th, 2025, and is currently burning at 4,220 acres. It is 32% contained. As firefighters will not have direct contact with the fire’s edge due to steepness of the canyon, much of the fire perimeter may take longer to be considered contained.
