On July 21st, 2025, Alaska State Troopers contacted Kenai Fjords National Park in regards to two individuals who had managed to get themselves stranded on a cliff face beyond the “Exit Creek Prohibited Visitor Use Zone” closure sign.

National Park Service Rangers responded to the location and reached the two individuals. One person was unharmed and rangers were able to assist, but the second individual, who had sustained injuries from a fall, could not be reached.

Air National Guard responded with a helicopter to extract the victim who was subsequently brought to an Anchorage hospital for further medical treatment. The unharmed individual was then assisted in hiking out of the area.

The National Park Service wishes to remind all visitors to stay on designated park trails in Kenai Fjords National Park. Closures are put in place to protect both visitors and the park staff who respond to emergencies.
