Tragic news out of Rocky Mountain National Park where a search and rescue team recovered the body of a 66-year-old hiker from Fort Collins.

Park rangers were first notified of an overdue hiker on the evening of July 1st. The woman had planned a day hike to Chasm Lake but did not return. The woman’s body was discovered early the next morning on the south side of Chasm Lake. She was found on a scree slope and suffered an apparent fall.

RMNP’s Search and Rescue team worked with the Mesa Verde Interagency Helitak crew to recover the body, which was flown Wednesday to the Upper Beaver Meadows helipad and then transferred to the Boulder County Coroner’s office. Her name will be released after the next of kin are notified. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.
