For people who want to ski in July, one easy choice is over at Breckenridge Resort.
Started back in 2018, the Peak 10 Classic has brought skiers and riders to Breckenridge’s high-alpine terrain for a patriotic occasion. The July 4th event fittingly occurs in the Fourth of July Bowl at Breckenridge Resort. The goal of this event is to provide free and accessible skiing opportunities for those who want them in the summer. However, those goals have attracted large crowds, prompting adjustments to the event.
The Peak 10 Classic has announced that registration is now required for those who plan to use a shuttle. Previously a first-come, first-served affair, it now requires registration (albeit free) to ride one of the shuttles to Peak 10. Buses will depart from the Beaver Run Resort from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4th. It should be noted that, following the departure point, it’s still a steep two-mile hike to reach the snow patch. Those who want to hike and bike up without a shuttle ride can do that without registering.
This follows some notable changes last year, including a ban on parking and camping in Breckenridge Resort’s permit zone. The reasons for these changes are that the event now requires a permit from the US Forest Service.
According to Summit Daily, an after-party is planned at Broken Compass Brewing. The function will feature a live band, giveaways, Peak 10’s new official beer on tap, and food trucks.
